My USC thesis film Sleep in Heavenly Peace will be screening at three festivals in the next month:
This weekend at the True West Cinema Festival in Boise, Idaho - technically this is the film's World Premiere. The film will be screening at 4:45 pm on Sunday, August 12 at The Flicks, 646 Fulton St., Boise.
Next, at the L.A. Shorts Fest, on Thursday, Sept. 6 at 3:15 pm, at the AMC Burbank 6, 770 N. 1st St., Burbank.
After that, at the Estes Park Film Festival on Sunday, Sept. 16 at 12pm, at the Park Theatre, 130 Moraine Ave., Estes Park, Colorado.
If you can make it to any of these (especially to any Los Angeles people out there) I promise you the funniest Christmas-themed farm accident movie you've ever seen.

I hope you'll be reminding us again when the 6th nears. I'd love to see it. I was just thinking to myself the other day "how long has it been since I've seen a good Christmas-themed farm accident movie??" so your timing is perfect.
FYI: It's 16 minutes long. I have yet to make my 3-hour farm accident opus.

World premiere! I can't make it all the way from Boston, but I'll be sure to watch my copy again.
How strange. The other day, there was a story in the news about a vet in Taiwan who had his arm bitten off by an alligator. This led to a discussion of John Thompson, the North Dakota farmboy who had both arms severed by a thresher (the youngsters I was talking to had never heard of him, despite the insane media coverage at the time).
As you may recall, he dailed 9/11 with a pencil held in his teeth, and then lay in the bathtub so he wouldn't bleed all over. And the photo above apparently shows a guy in a tub. If your movie is in some way inspired by this incident, it's just too weird...
Wish I could see it, but Idaho is off the MUNI line. Are you gonna post in online eventually? Or send DVDs out to your bestest pals from HE and THB?

"Inspired" is a much better way to put it than "ripped off", if that answers the question, except that the bathtub scene is from the mid-point of my film, not the ending.
Unfortunately, since my film was made as a USC student production, they own the copyright and don't allow us to post them online...officially. We'll see what happens. However, I have several hundred copies on DVD and anyone who wants one can have one.
Awesome! There has never been a finer place to premiere than Boise! Have fun with that. I assume you're traveling with the film, eh? Good luck!

You can't exactly rip off a real-life event. In any case, I'm sure you're the first to interpret it as a comedy. (You sick, sick puppy.)
The coincidence is just too strange. We were talking about the thresher incident just last week, and of the guys I related the story to is from...you got it, Idaho.

I believe that Joe Leydon is a very nice guy who has his own set of irrational likes and dislikes (as we all do), which become exagerrated in the anonymous worlds of blogs. He also has a grandpa complex (as in a predilection to want share his wisdom with young 'uns).
Hey now, Joe's a much cooler guy in person than he apparently comes off as to you on blogs. I've met him twice and he's a genuinely nice guy. And, he reminds me of Santa Claus which is pretty awesome. He's not fat....he just resembles him in white hair and cheerfulness.
No, I'm sure he's quite lovely in person, I'm not being sarcastic. What I thought was a perfectly cordial relationship soured due to stubbornness on both sides and the kinds of misunderstandings that on-line communication exagerrates, unfortunately.
